Abstract
This collection consists of photographs of members of the Tavern Club, Boston, Mass.
Historical Sketch
The Tavern Club is a private Boston, Mass. social club founded in 1884 by Royal Whitman, Timothee Adamowski, B. C. Porter, George Munzig, and Frederick Prince. Since 1887, the club has been housed at 4 Boylston Place in Boston. Membership is by invitation only and, until 1988, when the club voted to admit women, was exclusively male. In the foreword to the club's centennial history, President Paul Reardon noted that "Taverners" believe in "good fellowship and friendship, sympathy in love of beauty, in art and literature, and character." Musicians, actors, artists, educators, physicians, lawyers, and businessmen from Boston and beyond comprise its membership.
